Data4Rural update

01.04.2026Sparks

The Data4Rural, Erasmus+ programme, focuses on the digital transformation of rural tourism through the use of data and modern digital tools. Its main goal is to help tourism providers, local communities, and other stakeholders in rural areas use data for better decision-making, planning, and promotion of tourism activities, supporting more sustainable and inclusive development.
The project promotes “data-driven” tourism, where decisions are based on data analysis. It develops practical tools such as an e-learning platform, training programmes, a shared data environment, and workshops and webinars, with a strong focus on real-world application.
Over the past few months, the project has carried out desk research in all partner countries on the use of data in rural tourism, as well as one-on-one and focus group interviews with various stakeholders. The aim was to gain deeper insight into the sector and identify how the project can best move forward in developing training for rural tourism stakeholders.
Partners come from several European countries, including Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and the Czech Republic, forming an international network of experts and organisations. The project helps improve digital skills in rural areas and reduces the digital gap between urban and rural regions.
The significance of the Data4Rural project lies primarily in the fact that it addresses the lack of knowledge regarding the use of data in rural areas. By strengthening digital skills, it contributes to the greater competitiveness of rural destinations, promotes sustainable development, and reduces the digital divide between urban and rural areas.
